Congo History Series - Patrice Lumumba (Ep 5) "We are deeply proud of our struggle, because it was just and noble and indispensable in putting an end to the humiliating colonial regime forced upon us". For some of us Patrice Lumumba was a true nationalist hero. Others portrayed him as a corrupt opportunist, but either way Lumumba will always be an emblematic figure of the African struggle for i...

Patrice Lumumba Independence Day Speech (June 30, 1960)
Просмотров 104 тыс.4 года назад
Few speeches have marked our history as much as that given by the Congolese Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba on 30 June 1960, the day that Congo achieved its independence. This speech could be considered the birth certificate of modern Congo, a country that was then emerging from eighty years of colonialism and which looked with confidence to its future. In Africa this speech is considered one of...
De Patrice à Lumumba (Clip)

As his fate was decided, Patrice Lumumba decided to write a letter to his wife, as a token of the promise he had made to himself about his country and his people. This letter, although keeping a militant tone, reveals the more private side of Lumumba, yet freer still to express what is deep inside him. This story, mainly told in his own words, gives Lumumba back the humanity he was not afforded...

What a courage this man had. There is an old Soviet song on honour of this great man: Patrice Lumumba. May he RIP.
I love this man, long live Patrice Lumumba we will never forget him❤️🖤💚
what is the source of the video? who shot it?
I don't know? BBC maybe?
The thing that pains me the most about countries in Africa is that we never get to just speak our own languages. He opens his mouth and it's French... it hurts so much what colonisers have done and continue to do
Truly amazing place on earth
Love this documentary which I saw in full ibn USA. How can I see the full docuentary in Spain with my grandkids?
This speech deserves more likes. Lumumba was so brave & smart to speak the truth in front of the Congo's oppressors
Hi! Where can we stream in Canada?
Hi! Where can we stream in Canada?
That was an impromptu speech, I learned. 😦 He was not scheduled to speak. It's hard to watch that and know what happened after the speech. He's right in everything he says, but he wasn't a good diplomat who thought about the concrete tomorrow after.
Brother Your right!! You’re so Right ✊🏾
This must have been a great day to look forward to, being in the audience, being in the presence of Pateice Limumba, giving a powerful, roaring speech, declaring the sovereignty, independence and autonomy of the Congo I wish I was there, even if i dont understand him, the strength, vigour and veracity in his voice, tells me, what he means a day to behold I wish I could of attended the Independence Day of many African nations, including, Ghana, Kenya, to name a few, to see kwame Nkrummah and Jomo Kenyatta deliver the speech, that forever changes, there nations history is mind blowing independence de Congo, 🇨🇩😄 I ❤ Africa
Since the assassination of Lumumba, congo has never known peace

I am Belgian and I will honour and remember Lumumba and aid current fights for more equality. In the memory of Lumumba
CIA and The Belgian government arranged the whole plot,We Africans will never forget our beloved African son, Patrice Lumumba.
THIS IS SO GOOD. So well done, and very enlightening.
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
He made the mistake to say the word "sosial" durriing the cold war period. This made him a target for the US. He should simple raise taxes and try an agreement with the US.
This is why peace will always be difficulty in the congo because you murdered an innocent blood that was liberating you from slavery, the all country need to pray and ask for forgiveness
Patrice’s story is tragic. behind every leader are political workings and motivations, but it was clear as day, regardless of how he was labelled, that Patrice would tirelessly pursue the goal of his nation being able to stand independently. most of the West is guilty for turning away from Patrice, but shame on the Belgians especially for doing almost everything in their power to delegitimize and dismantle Patrice and his government, just so they can install a bobble-head styled yes man government.
Rest in piece Lumumba 🇨🇩. love from Morocco 🇲🇦♥️
History have remembered today . I also pray that Good God will give you entire family the heart to bear the lost. U are really truely hero
Amazing speech, really made the oppressors uncomfortable
Congratulations for your national holiday on 30th June DR Congo from your friends in Germany <3 Congo is a beaufitul country with nice landscape, charming people and such a nice culture. I´m really proud to call you our friends. Best wishes for the future from your friends in Germany <3
I almost cried. Lumumba was truly a great man.
Good day from the States. Mr. Lumumba's words are still stirring 63 years later.
The speech was precise but far too amicable to the wicked invasive Belgian government and people who were 100% the enemy and accountable for Congo's genocides.
Kembo nostalgie de nos léopards de l'époque
We need leaders like him.
You can’t help but she’d tears, I’m Forever Fighting! 😤🇨🇩
What a speech. Shu. No wonder they had to eliminate him. He was going to be a very big problem. He had to die. Shuu.
This was the message that got him assassinated and plz someone tell me what exactly has he done to be assassinated then chopping up in peaces then his chopped up body then to be dissolved in acid. All he wanted was to be free from the west and build his country.
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩😎😎😎😎😰😙😙😍
His blood will be upon those who plotted and murdered this great leader.
Congo D.R. my top ten favorite countries in the world ,,,, just beautiful nature 🇨🇩 ❤
He lived as a human being, but he was an enjoy sent by God himself to the Congolese people
Look at their evil and shameful faces..May many more Nkrumahs and Lumumbas sprout in Africa..
Imagine that schools wouldn’t teach you about this but they’ll teach you bout some white guy like white people are the only ones that ever did anything historically impactful it sickens me to think about how this man’s story ends
And Thomas Sankara too, every African leader that seeks to end the exploitative extraction of the US and European colonialist plunder is assassinated in brutal coups led by these western intelligence agencies. They will go to any lengths to preserve these forms of exploitation that western powers have relied on for centuries such as France's colonial taxation deals which amount to over 500 billion dollars every single year. That's certainly worth undermining Africa's democratic process in the eyes of organisations like the CIA and France's DGSE.
The current African leaders both traditional and Government are more than the white men in the slave trade era
We still needed you

I'm from México. I read so much about Lumumba, and I deeply admire him. I was looking for his speech so i could deliver it to my English class. It was so difficult to find it. USA doesn't want us to know his obscure history. Best of look, congolense brothers. Big hug from Latín America
God bless you my Mexican brother. This man fearless and a Thorn in white men's fresh
